Queen’s Gate: Shiranui Mai figure

Figures October 17th, 2008

First off, I should probably give the bad news, this will most likely make any figure collector scream.  This particular figure of Shiranui Mai is a Hobby Japan Exclusive, which is a mail-in.  So for anyone interested in acquiring her.  You’ll have to either use ebay or find a proxy service in Japan.

Sculpted by Chorosuke of Volks, this is one AMAZING figure.

Queens Gate Shiranui Mai PVC

This was spotted at TGS ‘08 at SNK’s booth I believe.  No word on what her price will be, but that apparently reservation of her starts on November 25th, which the January issue of Hobby Japan will have the form for her.  However, that’s probably wrong unless Hobby Japan puts out issues that far ahead.

I can’t see much for what scale she is, as the paper next to her doesn’t seem to say anything.

The paint job is amazing here! It would also appear that her bottom is cast-off. I will be hunting her down.  More pictures of this lovely girl can be found at AkibaHobby

Yen Plus - a new manga anthology for NA.

Manga October 15th, 2008

This is actually very exciting news, which has strangely slipped under my ever-expanding radar.  I suppose I’m so focused with checking out news on directly from Japanese sites, that I sometimes forget to look here at home!

Soul Eater back cover

What is an anthology?  Well in a nutshell it means a collection of published works, so in this case Yen Plus is a monthly serialization of select manga straight from Japan!  Not only that they also have some OEL (Original English Language), and Manwha (korean version of manga). See more pictures and read more after the jump…

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Ep 11

Anime September 22nd, 2008

Nogizaka Haruka No Himitsu was a rather unexpected delight this anime season, however it didn’t really have many serious contenders to go up against for the genre it targeted.  I will say episode 9-10 were not really my favorite of this series, they felt really out of place to me.  I guess it has to do with the fact that Haruka and Yuuto are always happy, and to see them like that was a bit sad.

Figma gaining popularity

Figures September 22nd, 2008

I still refuse to get a figma, despite the affordableness they have.  I often find many posts with people saying they break easily, while if you live in Japan you should have an easier time finding a replacement part for it, but if you don’t live in Japan, be prepared to pay some shipping.

However, I can’t deny that they look like a lot of fun to have, as Danny Choo over at his site seems to be starting a Figma Theater weekly thing, and by all means he definitely has the props to do it, not to mention he gets a lot of figures/figmas before it’s publicly available.  I been finding many others are starting to get into figma as well.  Some images taken by them below.

Xam’d: Lost Memories

Anime September 19th, 2008

This is a anime that is actually available to North Americans first, even before the Japanese audience gets to see it.  I believe they will get this available to them this upcoming fall season, or for sure Winter.  Bones is the animation studios for this title, and the quality of the anime is clearly shown as can be seen from the images in this post.

xamd opening

This anime will probbaly never see the light of day on an actual TV station, as it’s done exclusively on Sony’s Playstation Network (PSN).  So if you don’t have a PS3, you’re shit outta luck.  Of course you could acquire it by other means via torrent.  It’s kind of pricey too, as they want $4.99 for a “HD Rental”, thats only good for 24 hours!  Sorry, but 5 bucks for 18 minutes of actual episode showtime, is out of my range. I should mention that this anime is subbed only, so for those hoping for english voices even here in the NA region, you’re outta luck.

Shin Megami Tensei MMO Hitting North America And Europe

Games September 11th, 2008

Holy Crap!

I must be witnessing heaven, at least a little bit.  As it was just announced that the free MMO from the famous cult hit MegaTen will be hitting American and European shores.  I will definitely be playing this one, I just hope it doesn’t ruin my life.  Currently that job belongs to Disgaea 3.

Megaten MMO

I already know that when Persona 4 releases here this coming December, I’ll really be in trouble!

ARIA The Animation - DVD Boxset

Anime September 2nd, 2008

Labor day weekend was surprisingly relaxing, and it enabled me to have some more free time, which is always good right?  I used that time to search around on Amazon.com to see if anything caught my eye.  Now if you’re coming from dannychoo.com, odds are you probably know that I’m a fan of ARIA so naturally I looked it up knowing that it was recently licensed here.

Aria DVD boxart

I was surprised to see that it was actually coming much sooner than I expected, September 30th, 2008 is the release date.  It already has a pre-order setup for it if you’re interested.  I’ll most likely be getting this, since I’m a raving fan of it.

For those who don’t know what ARIA is about, I’ve included a short summary below.

On the planet Aqua lies the watery city of Neo Venezia, a tourist hub in which people travel around in gondolas. Professional gondoliers known as Undines are well-revered as they act as tour guides for the people. Akari Mizunashi is a gondolier in training and also an employee of Aria Company. She gets to meet all sorts of people as she takes them on the gondola rides, from friendly mentors to special individuals, all this admidst the beautiful scenic backdrop of the entire city. Heads up for readers here, I will be getting a new domain for my blog soon, and will keep everyone updated.  Oh yeah, if you like the summary I highly recommend checkin’ this baby out!

Bandai’s Code Geass Off-Shoot Guren Nishiki Type 2

Figures August 25th, 2008

Hey everybody just wanted to give you a heads up that I’ll be receiving Bandai’s Code Geass In Action OffShoot Guren Nishiki Type 2 figure soon. For those who don’t know this is the knightmare frame that Kallen pilots.  So you can expect a review for it!  This will be the first review of a figure I’ll be doing, granted it’s not a review requested by Bandai but doing it with my own spare time.

Word on the net is that Code Geass Offshoot figures are very high quality figures, especially considering the price tag on them are rather low — average about 30 US Dollars –.  So hopefully you’ll check out the review when it’s out!  Here’s a image for you all to enjoy until the review is up!
